Get To Know Your Candidates

Kaitlin Gagnon

Kaitlin has lived in Sparta since 2017. She and her husband Aaron have two sons (ages 8 and 5). She graduated from Ramapo College where she studied Communications with a concentration in Journalism. An avid writer, she has written several feature-length screenplays, all of which have placed in industry esteemed competitions. She performs freelance work remotely from home and spent the last decade serving in the health care industry. She is currently the co-President of the Alpine Field in Sparta. She established Sparta's One for All Initiative in hopes of promoting a nurturing, inclusive environment for all residents, in alliance with the Sparta Police Department. She has been a class mom for several years and a baseball coach for both sons. Her passions include spending quality time with her family, writing, reading, art, food, traveling with her writers group, and providing community support wherever needed. Kaitlin is running for a three year term.

Jen Grana

Jen has lived in Sparta for 17 years. She has four children (ages 18, 11, 7, and 3) including a recent Sparta High School graduate and another entering preschool at Alpine School this fall. She served on the Sparta Board of Education from 2019 to 2021 until she resigned from the position, citing consistent "misinformation" and a "lack of transparency" as her concerns. Jen hopes a new Board of Education will usher in new standards along with a restored energy and spirit to the Sparta district. Jen has attended Board Meetings for the past eight years and has stayed engaged with the happenings within the Sparta School District. She works as an art teacher at Morris County School of technology. Jen is running for a three year term.

Jessica Nelson

Jessica and her husband Joshua have lived in Sparta for 15 years. She has three children (ages 16, 12 and 6) and has been a foster parent to eleven children in the past nine years. She is the founder of "Wish Upon A Child," a Sparta based organization which provides holiday assistance to Sussex County families and children experiencing financial hardship. She is also the director of the "New Jersey Documentary Film Festival" which is held annually at the Sparta Avenue Stage. She was on the PTO board for three years and has been a class parent more times than she can count. Jessica is running for a three year term.

 Davina Daura

Davina has been a resident of Sparta for 20 years. She and her husband Damon have three children including a son (12), twin daughters (6), and a black lab named Rocky. She is the business owner of Performance Pediatrics and an Occupational Therapist. Her passion and mission statement has always been empowering, inspiring, supporting, advocating for children and families in support of equal opportunities, change, and just services for children with alternative learning styles. Her hobbies include snowboarding, travel, cooking, beach, time with family and friends and women's softball. Davina is running for a one year term.


Dana Gulino

Dana is a 16 year resident of Sparta. She is married to Greg and has a daughter (14) and two sons (9 and 5). Her background is in property and project management, solar and sustainability, and start-up. She is currently an Account Executive who oversees the HR functions for 10 companies. She is a first-generation American, originally from Totowa, and a graduate of Boston University. She currently sits as President of the Alpine Pool, LMCC. Her passions include reading and writing with an avid interest in the law. She believes in acceptance and tolerance, supports DEI, and advocacy for all. Dana is running for a one year term.


Tammy Mongon

Tammy has been a Sparta resident for 19 years. She has four children (ages 18, 16, 15, and 13). Tammy has been an active volunteer in both the school community and the general community. She served as class parent for multiple years and was the PTO President of Mohawk Avenue School. She has also led two Girl Scout troops over the years. Tammy's background is in education. For seventeen years, she has worked as a middle school teacher and coach. When not in the classroom, Tammy can be found on the soccer fields coaching both recreational and travel teams. In addition to coaching, she sat on the travel soccer Board and worked as the Registrar. As a parent, teacher, and community member, Tammy has the experience, knowledge, and determination to be a successful Board of Education member. She is able to listen with an open mind, respond with knowledge and respect, and advocate for all stakeholders that comprise the Sparta Township School District and community. Tammy is running for a one year term.
